German players Karl-Heinz Gerwert and Alexandra Wirtz survived as winners in the cup finals of Seniors European Championships 2008.

Bernhard Kreutter of Germany rose to bronze podium from 23rd place after 8 preliminary rounds, beating the 4th ranked Reinhard Schuster (Austria) in the bronze match.

Top-ranked men were watching the final match in the audience, as Karl-Heinz Gerwert of Germany (ranked 9th after preliminary rounds) played the final against silver medalist Michele Graffeo of Italy (ranked 14th after preliminary rounds).

In women’s competition Bernice Thors of Sweden rose to silver medal from 15th rank after 8 preliminary rounds, losing the final match to Alexandra Wirtz (ranked 4th after preliminary rounds).

The best female player of preliminary rounds, Elisabeth Kammerer of Austria, lost to Wirtz in semi-finals, but then won the bronze match against Doris Ertl of Austria (ranked 6th after preliminary rounds).
