BIHO and KNIT take lead in Austrian Bundesliga 2009

Bischofshofen took the lead in men, and Knittelfed in women, as Austrian Bundesliga 2008-2009 had its first competition day on 14 September 2008, at the beton course of Steyr.

Bundesliga 2008 winner WAT 21 was second in the competition, continuing its tight power struggle with Bischofshofen. (The second best total score was actually played by MSC Steyr, with 6 points lower score than WAT 21 — but Austrian Bundesliga does not count the total score of all rounds. It counts the sum of ranking points, which are awarded to teams for their rank in each single round of the competition.)

Reinhard Schuster and Rupert Westenthaler of Bischofshofen were by far the best players of the weekend, with average scores 24.67 and 25.00. Also Norbert Wagenhofer of WAT 21 had an “average” 25.00, but he played only one round in the competition. Philipp Albrechtsberger of WAT 21 was third best of players who completed all competition rounds, with average 26.67.

Three best players in women’s competition were Andrea Hackl of Knittelfeld (average score 28.00), local junior player Jennifer Helm (28.33), and Elisabeth Berger-Rella of Knittelfeld (28.67).

Austrian Bundesliga is designed for 6 men’s teams and 6 women’s teams. Only 5 teams play in men’s league this season, and 4 teams in women’s league.
