British Matchplay Championships 2008
|
|
Tim Davies, the grand old man of British minigolf, expanded his trophy collection with another national champion title, as he defeated Andy Exall in the final match with points 6 – 1. Bronze went to Trevor Exall (another member of the vast Exall dynasty), who beat Kevin Botto by one point in the bronze match. The tournament was played as a knock-out competition, where the loser of a match falls directly from the competition. Each match consisted of one round only (18 holes). A traditional cup diagram was not used: the match opponents were chosen by a new lottery after each knock-out round. Players who had a match against each other, had the freedom to agree the day and location of their game. The first match was played on 1st March 2008, and the final matches were played on 25 October — nearly 8 months after the beginning of this massive minigolf tournament.
